Nunavut Tunngavik, Inc. and the Government of Nunavut support student remote learning

IQALUIT, Nunavut (August 30, 2021) – Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI) President, Aluki Kotierk, and Minister of Education, David Joanasie, are working together to provide additional support for student remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I would like to encourage all students to get informed about the vaccine and, if you can, get vaccinated. The vaccine is our best hope for a regular school year with friends, sports, and other extra-curricular programs. Over the past few weeks, the Delta variant has been surging around the world and so, we are working with the Government of Nunavut to provide digital supports to Inuit students for online learning,” said NTI President Kotierk.

“I would like to thank NTI for their ongoing efforts to support Nunavummiut during this pandemic,” said Minister Joanasie. “By working with NTI, my department can ensure that students have the supports they need to thrive and succeed in spite of the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Partnering with the Department of Education, NTI received $1.5 million from the federal Indigenous Community Support Fund to purchase an additional 600 internet-ready digital devices. This will ensure students and teachers across Nunavut have the tools they need for remote learning, should in-school instruction become restricted due to the impacts of COVID-19 on the school year. The Government of Nunavut’s Department of Education will purchase and distribute the devices.
