Debt collection practices of collection agencies

The Consumer Affairs office of Community and Government Services would like to remind Nunavummiut that collection agencies must be licenced to operate in Nunavut and must adhere to the Debt Collection Practices regulations of the Consumer Protection Act.

These practices include rules relating to how and when a collection agent may contact someone and who they can or cannot contact as it relates to a debt. A complete copy of the Debt Collection Practices may be obtained by contacting the Consumer Affairs division. You can also visit the Consumer Affairs Section of the Community and Government Services website at https://www.gov.nu.ca/community-and-government-services/information/con….

For further information and assistance, please contact our Consumer Affairs office at 1-866-223-8139.
