Summer Employment for Nunavut Students

The Summer Employment for Nunavut Students (SENS) program is a wage subsidy program provided to employers who wish to hire and train Nunavut students over the summer months. Students may begin work immediately after completing their school year.

The SENS program is offered in all Nunavut communities and requires employer involvement and commitment. Employers must apply for the SENS program on behalf of the Nunavut student(s).

Eligibility

Eligible students include:

Students aged 15 years or older.
Students is returning to school in the fall.
Student is a resident of Nunavut.

Eligible employers include:

Non-profit organizations, municipal governments, private sector employers, Inuit organizations or industry associations.
Clients must not be employed with the Government of Nunavut.

Program Benefits

Nunavut students receive valuable work experience as well as earn money to support them over their next school year.
Employers receive a wage subsidy to hire and train students in their organization.

Subsidy

SENS provides 50% of the student’s wage up to a maximum of 40 hours/week.
For persons with disabilities, SENS rates are 65% of the student’s wages up to a maximum of 40 hours/week.
