13 new cases of COVID-19 in Nunavut
Iqaluit, Nunavut (November 29, 2020) – Today, Nunavut has a total of 112 active cases of COVID-19 and a total of 65 recovered cases. 11 new cases have been identified in Arviat, bringing the
community’s number of active cases to 90. Whale Cove has two new cases, for a total of 14 active cases in the community.
“Nunavummiut are doing a remarkable job, and I encourage everyone to keep it up and stay vigilant. It remains critical that we keep working hard to slow the spread of this virus,” said Dr. Michael Patterson, Nunavut’s Chief Public Health Officer. “Remember that fluctuations in the number of new cases are normal, and not a reason to feel defeated. Please continue to practise all recommended public health measures, limit visiting and do not travel if it isn’t essential.”
All individuals with active COVID-19 are in isolation and they are well, with mild to moderate symptoms. Contact tracing in all impacted communities is ongoing and public health staff are monitoring everyone in isolation.
As of November 28, 203 tests have been done in Rankin Inlet with negative results. Arviat testing has yielded 536 negative tests. Testing in Whale Cove yielded 90 negative tests. Monitoring in Sanikiluaq continues.
Anyone who has reason to believe they have been exposed to COVID-19 is advised to call the COVID-hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST, or notify their community health centre right away, and immediately isolate at home for 14 days. Please do not go to the health centre in person.
