Retail fuel price adjustments
The Department of Community and Government Services, Petroleum Products Division (PPD), informs Nunavummiut of adjustments to retail fuel prices on diesel products and jet fuel, according to fluctuations in global crude market prices.
The price adjustments take effect on November 1, 2018 and are as follows:
- increases of $0.10/L and $0.05/L, net of tax, to jet fuel and all diesel products respectively, throughout Nunavut, excluding Iqaluit;
- increases of $0.15/L, net of tax, to both jet fuel and diesel heating in Iqaluit;
- no change to gasoline, naphtha or avgas prices throughout the territory.
This year, the price of oil has reached its highest level since 2014 as geopolitical factors such as US sanctions on Iran, supply disruptions in Venezuela and continuing conflicts in the Middle East have caused oil prices to rise internationally.
The changes further reflect the increased cost of fuels purchased by PPD in 2018; particularly in its kerosene based products, diesel and jet fuel, and further alignment between retail prices in Iqaluit and the rest of the territory.
Nunavut remains one of the lowest cost jurisdictions in Canada to purchase fuel products.
