Restorative Justice Week

Restorative Justice Week is November 20-27, 2016. This year’s theme is Inspiring Innovation.

Restorative justice is a response to crime that empowers Nunavummiut to be actively involved in the administration of justice. It brings the victims, offenders and community together to meet the needs of victims, hold offenders accountable and address the root causes of crime.

Community justice committees lead restorative justice efforts in all 25 Nunavut communities. They also ensure that crime is addressed in a culturally appropriate and relevant manner by integrating Inuit societal values and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ).

Restorative Justice Week events will take place throughout Nunavut. Nunavummiut are encouraged to contact their community justice outreach worker for information about local events.
