Queen Elizabeth II scholarship awards presented to top Nunavut nursing students

Iqaluit, Nunavut (May 2, 2023) – John Main, Minister of Health, presented five Queen Elizabeth II scholarship awards to top Nunavut Arctic College (NAC) nursing students at a luncheon in Iqaluit on Monday, April 24, 2023.

The Queen Elizabeth II scholarship awards are presented annually to the top students in their second, third and fourth years of the nursing program and include a $3,000 scholarship to aid in their studies.

“As Nunavut continues to work through the challenges of a global nursing shortage, it is encouraging to know Nunavummiut are training to fill these much-needed roles,” said Minister Main.

“I am proud of my department’s continued support to train nurses locally, which helps develop a stronger, more culturally informed workforce. I would like to congratulate all recipients of this year’s award for their dedication to their studies toward the future care of Nunavummiut.”

The 2023 scholarship award winners are Hattie Pameolik, Evora Essoh, Charity Uche, Vayda Kaviok and Nicole Boland. The awards are part of the Department of Health’s continued financial support to train Nunavummiut nurses.
