Public consultation on the Nunavut Fisheries Strategy Renewal

Start Date: February 20, 2014

End Date: February 20, 2014

Iqaluit, NU 45 sec

As part of the Nunavut Fisheries Strategy Renewal process, the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Environment is holding a public consultation in Iqaluit tonight, Thursday, February 20, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Navigator Inn. The goal of the consultation is to hear the ideas, concerns and priorities of Nunavummiut as they relate to fisheries and the future development of fisheries in Nunavut. Refreshments are provided.

The original Nunavut Fisheries Strategy was completed in 2005 as a collaborative effort between the Government of Nunavut and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated. The original strategy served as a blueprint for Nunavut’s fisheries development and contributed to significant growth in the industry. The renewed strategy builds on these successes and identifies new opportunities that help Nunavut’s sustainable fisheries industry continue to prosper.

Meetings are planned for a number of other communities throughout Nunavut, but the dates are not confirmed. Please listen to your local radio station for updates. For more information, or if you would like to provide input but are can’t attend the meeting, please call Devin Imrie, Fisheries and Sealing Division at 867-473-2642.
