Premier tables ministerial mandate letters

Iqaluit, Nunavut (November 8, 2022) – Today in the Legislative Assembly, Premier P.J. Akeeagok tabled individual mandate letters for each cabinet minister.

“This is the first time a Nunavut premier has created and published ministerial mandate letters for a cabinet,” Premier Akeeagok said. “This measure shows the will of this government to achieve transparency in our work. We want to share about the progress we are making. Commitments made to Nunavummiut by our government should be measurable, tangible, and transparent.”

The ministerial mandate letters share specific actions and outcomes expected from cabinet members for each portfolio over the course of their term. They can be found on the Premier’s website at www.premier.gov.nu.ca/en/ministerial-mandate-letters. They will also be posted for the public record on the Legislative Assembly website at assembly.nu.ca.

These letters will guide ministers in their work to fully implement the Katujjiluta mandate. Katujjiluta represents a set of actions and initiatives in five priority areas:

  • Aging with dignity in Nunavut.
  • Expanding the housing continuum.
  • Enabling health and healing.
  • Reinvesting in education.
  • Diversifying our local economies.

“We have agreed to a mid-term review of our progress, accomplishments, and plans for further action and will refresh all Ministers’ mandate letters following that review,” Akeeagok said.
