Premier Savikataaq appoints key staff

IQALUIT, Nunavut (June 20, 2018) – Premier Joe Savikataaq is pleased to announce the appointment of Virginia Mearns as Principal Secretary. Her appointment is effective July 3, 2018.

"I am thrilled that Ms. Mearns has accepted this position. Her collaborative style and dedication to support Inuit employment in the public service are great assets to this office," said Premier Savikataaq.

Since 2014, Ms. Mearns has served as Associate Deputy Minister of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs, responsible for overseeing strategic planning and direction for the Government of Nunavut (GN). Previous to that role, she was Chief Operating Officer of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.

Additionally, Cate Macleod, former Director of Communications for the GN, will serve as Press Secretary. Former Member of the Legislative Assembly Ron Elliott will continue as Premier Savikataaq’s Executive Assistant and Dorcas Nattaq-Hamioui will continue in her role as Executive Secretary.

"Now that my office is fully staffed, I am ready to hit the ground running. Together, we will work hard for Nunavummiut and are excited to engage with all our partners and stakeholders to ensure we accomplish our mandate," said Premier Savikataaq.
