Nunavut land referendum on May 9

Nunavummiut will vote in a territory-wide land referendum on May 9, 2016, in accordance with the Nunavut Lands Claim Agreement.

The outcome of the referendum will determine if municipalities can sell municipal lands. A “yes” vote will make it possible for a municipality to sell municipal land. A “no” vote will mean that a municipality will continue to own and lease the land. Each community in Nunavut will vote independently.

Because your vote is important, consultations will be held so that you can learn more and ask questions about this referendum.

To learn more about the referendum or the consultations, contact your hamlet office or visit www.landreferendum.gov.nu.ca
