Nominations open for sport awards and scholarships

Do you know an outstanding athlete, coach or volunteer in your community?

Nominations are now open for the 2016 Sport Awards and the 2016 Sport and Recreation Scholarships.

The 2016 Sport Awards recognize the accomplishments and contributions of Nunavut athletes, coaches, officials, teams and volunteers in categories such as Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year and Official of the Year. The Special Recognition Award is given to an individual for extraordinary contribution to the development of sport in Nunavut.

The 2016 Sport and Recreation Scholarships are valued at up to $5,000 each. These scholarships are given to promising Nunavut students who are pursuing a post-secondary education in the field of education/kinesiology, sport administration, sport sciences or recreation, at a recognized college or university.

Territorial sport and recreation organizations, hamlet councils, non-profit organizations and individuals are encouraged to submit nominations. The deadline to submit is June 1, 2016.
