Increased TAH limit for Southampton Island caribou

The total allowable harvest (TAH) limit for caribou on Southampton Island is now 1,600 caribou per year, up from the previous limit of 800 caribou.

Under this TAH, females with calves must NOT be harvested. These animals are particularly important for improving the herd’s size and health. Please contact the Wildlife Office in Coral Harbour for more information about how to tell the difference between male and female caribou.

Hunters must get a tag from the Coral Harbour office of the hunters and trappers organization (HTO), before they hunt. For further information, please contact the Coral Harbour Wildlife Office at 867-925-8823.
