Increased immunization efforts in the Qikiqtaaluk region
The Department of Health continues to make sure vaccinations are up to date, and treats individuals presenting symptoms consistent with whooping cough.
To help stop the spread of whooping cough, the department has increased immunization efforts in the Qikiqtaaluk region. In partnership with Health Canada, vaccine clinics will be held this week in the communities of Clyde River, Pond Inlet and Pangnirtung.
Whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory disease, preventable through immunization and treatable with antibiotics. Vaccination is especially important for children under the age of two and pregnant women in their last trimester.
Additional announcements will be provided over local radio. For more details, call your local health centre.
