Food recalls due to Salmonella

The Department of Health is warning about a food recall issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) due to possible Salmonella contamination on the following products:

Freshpoint Foodservice – Onion - Jumbo (yellow) – The 2.27 kg package has been recalled. The product code is 246010. More information on this product recall can be found on the CFIA website here.

Freshpoint Foodservice – Onion – Red – The 2.27 kg package has been recalled. The product code 246154. More information on this product recall can be found on the CFIA website here.

Imperial Fresh – Onions – Yellow, Red, White, and Sweet Yellow Onions – All sizes including bulk and, on all products, imported since May 1, 2020 have been recalled. More information on this product recall can be found on the CFIA website here.

Onions 52 – Onions – Yellow, Red, White, and Sweet Yellow Onions – All sizes including bulk and, on all products, imported since May 1, 2020 have been recalled. More information on this product recall can be found on the CFIA website here.

Tender Loving Care – Yellow, Red, White, and Sweet Yellow Onions – All sizes including bulk and, on all products, imported since May 1, 2020 have been recalled. More information on this product recall can be found on the CFIA website here.

Thomson International, Thomson International Premium, Thomson Premium - Yellow, Red, White, and Sweet Yellow Onions – All sizes including bulk and, on all products, imported since May 1, 2020 have been recalled. More information on this product recall can be found on the CFIA website here.

This recalled product should be thrown out or returned to the location where it was purchased. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause sickness. Short-term symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Young children, pregnant women, Elders and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your local health centre.
