Expression of Interest for Appointment to the Labour Standards Board
The Department of Justice is looking for enthusiastic individuals interested in serving on the Labour Standards Board.
The Board is established under the Labour Standards Act and handles appeals brought forth by employers or employees regarding decisions made by the Labour Standards Officer.
Applicants should have experience and/or knowledge in either labour or business, and in restorative justice. Oral and written fluency in English is essential, as membership requires extensive reading, comprehension of legal issues, and the ability to review/write clear and concise decisions. Oral and written fluency in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, and/or French would be an asset.
Applicants should be prepared to devote 5 to 15 hours per quarter to attend to Board affairs, such as reviewing appeals filed under the Labour Standards Act, reviewing/writing decisions, and conducting hearings. Most of this work will be completed remotely. Training will be provided, and members of the Board will be paid honoraria for the days when their services are required.
Active community members across Nunavut are invited to apply. Interested applicants are to provide a cover letter, a resume, and a criminal record check to @email.
For more information, please contact the Nunavut Labour Standards Board at @email or at 867-975-6159.
The application deadline is August 20, 2021.
