Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan

With the sealift season fast approaching, the Department of Community and Government Services’ Consumer Affairs Division would like to advise Nunavummiut of consumer protection available for automobile purchases.

The Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan (CAMVAP) is a national arbitration program that helps consumers resolve disputes with a vehicle manufacturer. CAMVAP helps address consumer issues pertaining to vehicle defects and warranty disputes for current vehicles or four previous model years.

The Arbitration Plan ensures fair and equitable dispute resolution by using arbitrators independent from the program. Possible remedies include repair at the manufacturer’s expense, reimbursement for repairs, refund for out-of-pocket expenses, or vehicle buyback.

CAMVAP is a not-for-profit organization composed of the automobile industry, provincial and territorial government representatives, and consumers. To find out which manufacturers participate in the program, visit CAMVAP.
