Canadian Family Literacy Day 2019

January 27 is Canadian Family Literacy Day’s 20th anniversary! To celebrate, families are encouraged to follow this year’s theme by participating in a literacy activity for 20 minutes together.

There are many literacy activities families can do, such as:

  • enjoying a storybook together;
  • playing word games;
  • singing or playing music together;
  • writing stories; and,
  • sharing day-to-day tasks such as making a shopping list or using a recipe.

Nunavut schools are also getting involved by holding their own literacy events. The schools are encouraging parents, children, and community members to engage in fun literacy activities that strengthen family relationships while supporting lifelong learning.
