Aging with Dignity in Nunavut: Sakku Investments and Partner to Operate New Kivalliq Long Term Care Centre

Rankin Inlet, Nunavut (April 12, 2024) – The Government of Nunavut (GN) has signed a contract with Sakku Investments Corporation, a Rankin Inlet based company, and their partner Embassy West Senior Living to operate the new Kivalliq Long Term Care Centre in Rankin Inlet.

The new 24-bed centre will provide Level 3, 4, and 5 long-term care services for Elders and is expected to open in the summer of 2024. A ceremonial signing event will take place in Rankin Inlet at the end of April.

In addition to operating the Kivalliq Long Term Care Centre, Sakku is dedicated to community and professional development by creating new specialized personal support worker positions in healthcare. This initiative is a collaborative effort with Nunavut Arctic College and will include the development of a training program.

“Together with Sakku, we're taking a significant step in achieving the GN’s 'Aging with Dignity in Nunavut' mandate,” said Minister of Health John Main. “With their operational support, we are enhancing daily life, boosting employment in caregiving, and most importantly, enabling Nunavummiut and Elders who need care to live closer to family and community.”

“Sakku is honoured to have the opportunity to combine exceptional care with supports valued by Inuit Elders, including country food, communication in Inuktitut, traditional gatherings, and favourite pastimes,” said Sakku Investments Corporation President David Kakuktinniq. “Together, the facilities will provide good jobs for Nunavummiut.”

The GN and Sakku look forward to the opening of the Kivalliq Long Term Care Centre and collaborating with community partners to enhance Elder care in Nunavut.
