16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence

November 25, 2020 is the start of the United Nations Campaign: 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This campaign is an international effort to bring awareness and action for violence against women and girls.

This year’s theme is “Orange the World: Fund Respond, Prevent, Collect!” Individuals and organizations are encouraged to show their support by wearing and displaying the colour orange on December 10, the last day of the campaign.

If you are experiencing family violence, or knows someone who is, help is available.

Under the Family Abuse Intervention Act (FAIA), Nunavummiut can access Community Intervention Order (CIO) which can provide referrals for counseling support for families, and Emergency Protection Order (EPO) which can provide immediate safety for someone who is experiencing family violence.

Please call 1-844-534-1038 and an on-call Community Justice Specialist will assist you with the process.

In addition to the immediate supports available under FAIA during a crisis, non-emergency services are available. Victim Services is a confidential, client-centered support service for victims and survivors of crime. Services are tailored to meet the needs of each victim of crime – whether it is deciding to report an incident to the police, seeking guidance through the court process, or for follow-up after sentencing. Services include access to information and training, direct support, and financial support through the Victims Travel Support Program and the Victims Assistance Fund.

For more information, please contact victim services at 1-866-456-5216 or email @email.
