Mission, Vision, Values

The department works to promote and protect a peaceful, secure and safe society through the administration of a justice system which respects the role of community members and which adheres to the principles and values of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and Inuit traditional law.

The Department of Justice ensures that the affairs of the Government are conducted in accordance with the law. The Department is also responsible for ensuring that all laws and regulations of Nunavut respect the Constitution of Canada and the Nunavut Act.

The Department provides quality legal services to Cabinet and the Government of Nunavut. It also manages programs and provides services for Nunavummiut to ensure that all people in Nunavut have access to justice and live in safe communities.
