Through Avatittinnik Kamatsiarniq (environmental stewardship), the Department of Environment, in partnership with others, protects the environment (land, air, water), parks and wildlife in Nunavut by promoting the sustainable use of these renewable resources.

Wildlife Operations has a legislated mandate for the management of terrestrial wildlife species in Nunavut.

Wildlife Research

The Wildlife Research Division is responsible for overseeing scientific research, wildlife monitoring, and the collection, and analysis of Inuit knowledge.
