Severe weather warning for Kivalliq and Qikiqtaaluk communities

Across Kivalliq and Qikiqtaaluk regions 60 sec

 

Environment Canada is forecasting very strong winds across the eastern Kivalliq and in Qikiqtaaluk communities, leading to widespread blizzard and whiteout conditions beginning on Tuesday, January 7.

Nunavummiut are advised to check the Environment Canada website for weather warnings and updates for their community: www.weather.gc.ca. Please listen to your local radio for weather updates.

The Government of Nunavut’s (GN) Protection Services division would like to remind all Nunavummiut to take appropriate safety measures to prepare for adverse weather conditions:

• Ensure you have enough food, water and required medication for 72 hours for each member of your household.

• Have a flashlight and first aid kit on hand.

• Secure any loose materials in your yard to prevent flying debris.
