Nunavut 60 sec

Are you an aspiring songwriter? Do you want your song to be part of Nunavut’s cultural heritage?

Submit an original Inuktut children’s song for Qilaut 2016, Nunavut’s annual Inuktut songwriting contest.

Qilaut celebrates Nunavut’s vibrant Inuktut music scene and promotes the use of Inuktut. By singing in Inuktut today, Nunavummiut are contributing to the vibrancy and strength of the Inuit culture.

Participants have the opportunity to win cash prizes – 1st prize, $5,000, 2nd prize, $2,500, and 3rd prize, $1,500. Winning submissions will be recorded professionally for a compilation album that will be distributed in February 2017, during Uqausirmut Quviasuutiqarniq, Nunavut’s annual celebration of Inuktut and Inuit culture.

For official contest rules and more information about Qilaut 2016, visit www.ch.gov.nu.ca. The deadline to submit songs is October 21, 2016.
