Nunavut Polar Bear Management Plan – Community Consultations

Attend the upcoming Polar Bear Management Plan consultation in your community to share your thoughts about polar bear management and conservation throughout Nunavut!

The Government of Nunavut is working in partnership with Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., Regional Wildlife Organizations, and Hunters and Trappers Organizations (HTO) to develop an updated Polar Bear Management Plan that reflects the needs of Inuit and builds on Nunavut’s success in sustainable polar bear management.

Consultations are seeking input from the public to help guide polar bear management decision-making, and to inform how we can ensure the long-term sustainability of polar bears in Nunavut through collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and both short and long-term planning.

Community consultations are taking place in the following Kitikmeot communities:

February 7, 2014 Kugluktuk: 7 p.m. Recreation Hall

February 8, 2014 Cambridge Bay: 7 p.m. Northwest Passage Room, Arctic Island Lodge

February 11, 2014 Gjoa Haven: 7 p.m. Gideon Qitsualik Memorial Hall

February 13, 2014 Taloyoak: 7 p.m. Community Hall

February 15, 2014 Kugaaruk: 7 p.m. Church Hall

For more information about the upcoming community consultations, or to submit feedback online, please visit http://env.gov.nu.ca or www.nupolarbears.ca. You can also contact your local conservation officer and/or HTO office for more information about meeting times and locations.
