On the land preparedness

Last updated Thursday, April 25, 2024

The Department of Community and Government Services’ Emergency Management Division is reminding Nunavummiut that Generation 3 SPOT units are active and available in all communities.

If you're planning a trip on the land, whether for the day or for an extended period, remember to sign out a free SPOT device from your local hamlet office, wildlife office, or Hunters and Trappers Organization. Remember to return SPOT units after your trip so that they are available to other community members.

Generation 3 SPOT devices serve as a lifeline, allowing you to send distress signals even in areas without cell service. They provide a means to communicate your precise location to those who can help. Ensure the gratitude of your loved ones, friends, and local search and rescue team by having a SPOT device and being prepared.

When planning your trip, tell someone where you’re going and check the weather. Bring enough of the right supplies including prescription medicines, extra clothing, food, fuel, matches and repair kit for snow machines.
