Hospital Renovations Set to Resume
IQALUIT, Nunavut (February 17, 2014) - Renovations to the original Baffin Regional Hospital (BRH) section of the Qikiqtani General Hospital in Iqaluit are slated to resume in March, the Department of Community and Government Services announced today. "Getting this project back on track means we are able to better address demand for medical services in this facility," said the Honourable Tom Sammurtok, Minister of Community and Government Services. "We experienced some initial set-backs, but are pleased to see the renovations resume."
Renovations came to a halt in April 2013 after the previous general contractor went into receivership.
"Once the project is complete, we will be able offer 26 additional clinical spaces for patient care and community wellness services," said the Honourable Monica Ell, Minister of Health. "The integration of this new space gives patients a full-range of services in one convenient location."
The renovation becomes a single point of access to the outpatient clinic, specialty clinic, family practice clinic and pharmacy.
Quinan Construction Limited, has been selected to complete the project, with an anticipated completion date by the end of 2015. The company specializes in hospital renovations and has successfully completed 28 hospital projects in Ontario.
