Government of Nunavut releases new Proof of Vaccination Certificate
Nunavut (October 12, 2021) –The Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health today announced that a new proof of vaccination certificate or PVC, is now available to Nunavummiut. The PVC will allow Nunavummiut to comply with the upcoming federal proof of vaccination requirements for domestic travel and access non-essential services in jurisdictions requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
At this time, the PVC does not replace the travel into vaccine exemption letter from the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer.
The PVC includes an individual’s name, date of birth, vaccine information including the dates of all doses received, and a QR code that allows for the verification of vaccine status.
The certificate is free and can be obtained in person only at your local health centre, Iqaluit Public Health or Qikiqtani General Hospital. The Department of Health is also holding a PVC clinic at the Cadet Hall in Iqaluit, on October 14 and 15 between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
To avoid overwhelming health facilities, please call your local health centre, Iqaluit Public Health or QGH in advance and they schedule a time to pick up the PVC.The certificate will also automatically be issued when an individual receives their second dose or booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
It is recommended that you only request a PVC a few days prior to your travel date. Nunavummiut are also reminded to research public health restrictions and proof of vaccination requirements before travelling. The Government of Nunavut continues to advise against non-essential travel.
Vaccine continues to be available across the territory. Call your health centre to make an appointment or walk into Iqaluit Public Health every weekday for Moderna (ages 18+) and Wednesday for Pfizer (ages 12 to 17). Vaccines are the best way to protect yourself, your family and your community.
Anyone who develops symptoms of COVID-19 is advised to call the COVID-hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST to arrange testing or notify their community health centre right away. Please do not go to the health centre in person, and immediately isolate at home for 14 days.
