Government of Nunavut announces senior management appointments

KUGLUKTUK, Nunavut (June 15, 2015) – Premier Peter Taptuna today announced the following changes to the Government of Nunavut (GN) senior management.

Effective May 29, 2015, Virginia Qulaut Lloyd is the associate deputy minister of the Department of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs (EIA). Ms. Lloyd was previously the executive director of strategic planning with EIA, and a past chief operating officer for Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated.

Effective June 15, 2015, Peter Tumilty, current assistant deputy minister of the Department of Finance, becomes the short-term president of Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC). The position of QEC president will go through an open competition, as part of the GN’s commitment to open and transparent government operations.

Mr. Tumilty replaces Alain Barriault, who leaves the Nunavut public service today. Previous to his time at QEC, Mr. Barriault was a former president of the Nunavut Housing Corporation.

"We continue to strengthen our leadership with the appointment of qualified beneficiaries into significant management level positions, and we are focusing our efforts on seeing this progress continue," said Premier Taptuna. "I thank Mr. Barriault for his service to the government in his previous positions."
