Air quality alert due to Sanikiluaq fire

The Department of Health is warning residents of Sanikiluaq against exposure to smoke, following a fire in the wood disposal section of the dump. The fire has been extinguished but continues to produce smoke.

People with heart or lung disease, asthma, the elderly, children and pregnant women should limit their exposure to smoke.

Avoid the area around the fire and stay indoors as much as possible with the doors and windows closed. People should seek medical attention if they have symptoms like trouble breathing or tightness in the chest.

Updates will follow as soon as they are available.
