Qilaut songwriting contest: 2019 submissions

Are you an aspiring songwriter? Do you want your song to be part of Nunavut’s cultural heritage? The Department of Culture and Heritage is now accepting submissions for original Inuktut songs, part of the 2019 edition of Qilaut songwriting contest! This year, our theme is Family and Friends/Ilannaariit Piqannariillu.

Qilaut celebrates Nunavut’s vibrant Inuktut music scene and Nunavummiut are contributing to the vibrancy and strength of Inuit culture by writing and singing songs in Inuktut.

Participants have the opportunity to win cash prizes: $5,000 for 1st prize, $2,500 for 2nd prize, and $1,500 for 3rd prize. Winning submissions will be recorded professionally and a compilation album will be distributed in February 2020, during Uqausirmut Quviasuutiqarniq, Nunavut’s annual celebration of Inuktut and Inuit culture.

For official contest rules and more information about Qilaut 2019, visit www.ch.gov.nu.ca. The deadline to submit songs is October 11, 2019.
