Medical Travel for Non-Inuit Nunavummiut
If your doctor or nurse tells you that you need to be sent out for medical treatment they will set up an appointment for you in a specialist’s office, hospital or health centre outside your community.
If you are eligible, the costs of your medical travel will be paid for by up to two different government insurance plans:
- Nunavut Health Care Plan
- Extended Health Benefits (EHB)
Nunavut Health Care Plan
Your Nunavut Health Care Plan will pay for your airfare less a $250 round trip deductible (co-payment) from your home community to the nearest centre where treatment is available.

Extended Health Benefits (EHB)
To be eligible for EHB, you must be a non-beneficiary 65 years or older, a non-beneficiary with a long-term illness, or a Nunavut resident who has used up all other insurance options.
