Orientation Program
The Government of Nunavut (GN) offers a Cultural Orientation program and an Employee Orientation program to all GN employees.
What is the Cultural Orientation program?
The Government of Nunavut believes that Inuit societal values are the foundation of an open, responsive and accountable government. The GN is committed to ensuring that programs and services are more effective and relevant through Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and Inuit societal values (ISV).
Cultural orientation sessions provide GN staff with the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Nunavut, and support employees to incorporate Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and ISV into the workplace.

What is the format for cultural orientation sessions?
One-day cultural orientation sessions are delivered to GN staff throughout the year in all three Nunavut regions (Qikiqtaaluk, Kivalliq and Kitikmeot). The sessions are designed to be delivered in a classroom setting, via videoconference or as seasonal, on-the-land sessions.
Who delivers the cultural orientation sessions?
Cultural orientation sessions are led by Elders, Inuit cultural experts, invited speakers from Inuit organizations, and/or GN employees whose work focuses on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuit societal values and Inuit employment.
What is the Employee Orientation program?
The Government of Nunavut (GN) is committed under the ISV principle of Tunnganarniq to making the workplace people-friendly, welcoming and accepting for Nunavummiut, our colleagues and others. This is accomplished by providing up-to-date and relevant orientation programs to benefit all Government of Nunavut employees.
Employee orientation sessions provide GN staff with the opportunity to learn about GN operations and organizational culture, staff training opportunities and services and benefits available to new employees.

What is the format for employee orientation sessions?
One-day employee orientation sessions are delivered to GN staff throughout the year in all three Nunavut regions (Qikiqtaaluk, Kivalliq and Kitikmeot). The sessions are designed to be delivered in a classroom setting or via videoconference.
Who delivers the employee orientation sessions?
Employee orientation sessions are led by GN employees from multiple departments, and also include a presentation by the Nunavut Employees’ Union.
When are orientation sessions offered?
All of the orientation sessions currently offered are listed on the GN Training Calendar and advertised internally to GN employees. Orientation sessions are regularly added to the Training Calendar throughout the year.
