Minister of Education

Pamela Hakongak Gross was elected in the general election held on October 25, 2021, to represent the constituency of Cambridge Bay in the 6th Legislative Assembly of Nunavut.

Ms. Gross was elected to serve on the Executive Council during the November 17, 2021, proceedings of the Nunavut Leadership Forum. She was formally sworn into office on November 19, 2021. 

Ms. Gross’s previous professional experience includes positions as Executive Director of the Kitikmeot Heritage Society, Business Manager for the Kaapittiaq venture, Assistant Technical Advisor for the Nunavut Impact Review Board and Copy Editor for ContentsWorks/Qikiqtani Inuit Association.

Ms. Gross holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology from Carleton University and has undertaken studies in indigenous governance at the University of Winnipeg. Ms. Gross has also pursued work in Inuinnaqtun revitalization and Inuit Studies at Nunavut Arctic College and Nunavut Sivuniksavut.

Ms. Gross has served as the Mayor of Cambridge Bay and a member of municipal council. She has also served as President of the Inuit Heritage Trust, Vice-President the Amautiit Nunavut Inuit Women’s Association, member of the board of directors of Nunavut Sivuniksavut and member of the Canadian Museums Association’s Reconciliation Council. Ms. Gross is a member of the College of Fellows of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and a volunteer with the Umingmak Frolics Planning Committee.

Ms. Gross’s personal interests include sewing, land activities and studying Arctic history.
