Public Libraries are vital public spaces which contribute to personal empowerment and positive change in their communities. Nunavut Public Library Service (NPLS) provides materials, technical support and programing resources for the 11 community libraries in the Public Library System to promote these outcomes. We provide guidance and professional expertise to help Nunavut’s communities make the most of the opportunities provided by public libraries.

Nunavut’s public libraries are safe, welcoming environments open to all regardless of affiliation, appearance, belief, gender, preference, origin or ability. We help our patrons to access the information they need and use knowledge to create opportunities for personal growth. We provide patrons with information that enriches their lives as Nunavummiut and as citizens of the global community. We strive to build community based programs that contribute to our Territory’s social, economic and cultural well-being by sharing contemporary information from all over the world but viewed from a northern perspective encourage discussion and debate which facilitates life-long learning and literacy.

Nunavut’s public libraries offer a broad range of books, magazines, DVDs and other services to patrons. Other services include technology training, children’s programs, free Internet access, reference, screenings, inter-library loans, and seasonal special events promoting Nunavut’s culture, literacy and their benefits.

NPLS also has a website at Nunavut Public Library Services which provides an extensive list of community and online resources as well as access to our Online Public Access Catalog and several proprietary databases. Patrons wishing to access the NPLS Catalog directly may do so through NPLS Catalog .
