COVID-19 GN Update
There are still no confirmed or probable cases of COVID-19 in Nunavut.
The total number of persons followed to date is 3681. There are 550 persons currently being followed.
As cases of COVID-19 in Southern Canada increase, the Department of Health would like to remind Nunavummiut that there are numerous public health measures working to reduce the risk of COVID-19 being transmitted in Nunavut.
The Isolation requirement is the most effective way to break transmission. All travellers coming to Nunavut with an exemption are required to self-isolate, for critical workers that means not going out in public when not at work for the first 14 days with infrequent exceptions for essential errands. Exempted travellers must also wear a mask for the first 14 days after arrival in Nunavut.
Public health measures such as physical distancing, proper hygiene and limits to gathering sizes greatly help to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus.
Last week, the Province of Manitoba announced the City of Winnipeg had reached the province’s code-red level for COVID-19. The Department of Health is monitoring the situation closely. The change in status might affect some medical service in Manitoba and the medical travellers are being notified of any changes to their appointments.
Currently, there is no change to the Common Travel Area with Churchill, Man. However, Nunavummiut are reminded that travel is not advised at this time and Common Travel Areas may be rescinded without notice and might cause delays in travel and the need to isolate for 14 days before returning to Nunavut.
As part of the Government of Nunavut’s (GN) effort to protect Nunavummiut against the risk of COVID-19, GN Departments are implementing the following:
