Reporting to the Senior Advisor, Angutiit; the Men’s Wellness Specialist position exists to foster the engagement of men in support programs and services, provide facilitator training to men’s groups across the territory and to work towards the restoration of pride in Inuit men. The Men’s Wellness Specialist will work directly with individuals and community organizations to foster and strengthen the role of men in the territory through training and engagement initiatives. This position serves the public, ranging in age from teens to Elders and provides support to government departments to achieve their goals. As the successful candidate you will also play a key role in supporting, mentoring and developing men who are leading change in their communities.
In order to be successful in the position and support the strategic direction, the position’s performance will be assessed on the following key priority areas; service delivery, personal development, departmental efficiency and partnerships. You will provide facilitator training for individuals and organizations to develop capacity for men’s groups for healing, life-skills development, health and wellbeing. At times, you will provide crisis counselling in partnership with service agencies such as local men’s groups. You will support a positive learning and self-care environment. Another responsibility of this position is to lead or participate in pilot projects to identify innovative solutions and develop the knowledge base for men’s wellness.
To be invited for an interview, you are required to: have experience in facilitating meetings among high stress and high need clients; have knowledge of social work practice, community resources, income support, adult education opportunities, community corrections and community development principles; be able to establish and maintain effective networks with community services and families; and have crisis and non-crisis intervention and confrontation skills. Computer proficiency including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and fluent verbal and written abilities in Inuktitut/Inuinnaqtun and English is required.
The successful candidate would normally obtain these knowledge, skills and abilities through a diploma in social work, mental health or related field with a minimum of two years of working with clients.Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
