Reporting to the Nurse Manager, Emergency Department, the Medical Clerk Interpreter will provide Inuktitut and English translation (written and oral) between patients, medical and nursing staff, laboratory and radiology technicians, pharmacy staff, physiotherapists, other staff of the hospital, relatives and other visitors. The incumbent will assist medical and nursing staff in the care of patients directly or indirectly. It is the Clerk Interpreters responsibility to maintain equipment and supplies. Additionally, you will provide general assistance in clinical and patient areas and performs clerical and administrative duties as required.
The ideal candidate must have grade 10 and should have the ability to understand and give simple instructions, and the ability to copy notes from charts. You must possess a positive attitude and be able to work effectively as a team member. You must be fully bilingual in English and Inuktitut and must have knowledge of syllabics are required. Some typing skills are necessary. Office experience is an asset. Minor nursing and clerical skills are acquired through on-the-job training. Certification (example, First Aide course, Basic CPR) is desirable. Medical terminology courses (Module 1-5) is required.
