The Library Technician provides library support services for all Nunavut Research Institute services, programs and functions. This position is located at Nunavut Arctic College, Nunavut Research Institute, in Iqaluit and reports to the Manager of Library Services, Iqaluit and is responsible for providing support library services to all students, staff and visiting researchers. This position also provides services to the public. This is a half time position.
The incumbent will be required to provide instruction and research assistance to all library clients, in person, by telephone, by mail, or e-mail, process incoming materials, document new materials, and manage periodicals and vertical file materials. This position requires spending long periods of time at a computer; researching and typing, and taking on an active and sometimes demanding role in educating and providing services to Library patrons. This position will require excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a diverse community of users.
The successful incumbent will have 2 years of post-secondary education in a college or university program with 1 year of experience working in an administrative role that involves interacting with clients/customers and/or be situated in a library setting. The incumbent is required to be proficient in computer use and internet searching. This requirement should be identified on the applicants’ resume, as to how these skills were obtained. Fluency in spoken and written Inuktitut is a strong asset. A willingness and aptitude to complete course-work in the field of library studies is essential. Knowledge of and experience with the Library of Congress Classification System would be considered a definite asset and applicants with this asset will be first interviewed within priority groups as established in Article 23 of the Nunavut Lands Claim Agreement.
Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset. Equivalencies that consist of a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education and experience requirements will be considered.
This position is included in the Nunavut Employees Union and has a salary range of $33,004.00 to $37,459.50 per annum (based on part-time work schedule) plus Northern Allowance of $7,508.00 per annum (based on part-time work schedule).
