website: http://www.nu-nlsb.ca

The Labour Standards Board is an administrative tribunal, established on April 1, 2000 under theLabour Standards Act. The Labour Standards Act is the basic legal authority for employment standards in Nunavut. The purpose of the Labour Standards Act is to describe the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees who fall under its authority. The Board hears appeals by either the employer or employee from decisions or orders of the Labour Standards Officer.

The Board was established to provide citizens with a quicker and less cumbersome alternative to the civil court system. Its function is to review each Certificate from the Labour Services Branch before making a decision regardless if that case is appealed. The Board may hold hearings and consider representation by the persons involved.

Nunavut Criminal Code Review Board

website: http://www.nu-nrb.ca

The Criminal Code requires every province and territory in Canada to establish a review board, with the responsibility of determining the placement of a person who has been found by the criminal court to be unfit to stand trial or not criminally responsible on account of mental disorder. The board decides whether the person should be detained in a hospital, discharged into the community with conditions or, in the case of the not criminally responsible, absolutely discharged. The Nunavut Review Board (NRB) was established in 1999 with jurisdiction to hold hearings involving criminal cases before the Nunavut Court of Justice upon referral to the Board.
