Reporting to the Manager, Tuberculosis (TB) Program, the TB Nurse Educator will support provision of quality Public Health Tuberculosis services in Nunavut by developing materials and a curriculum for a TB certification program for nurses, implement the TB certification by teaching the curriculum to Nunavut nurses. Training healthcare workers in understanding and utilizing Nunavut’s TB Control Manual, find and/or develop tools for healthcare workers to use in educating clients and the general public about TB and organizing these programs and tools in a manner that will allow them to be sustainable after the position term ends.
The TB Nurse Educator will provide professional advice, consultation, and expertise to ensure educational materials and programs are based upon current research, best practices, and in keeping with the Nunavut Tuberculosis Manual and the Canadian Tuberculosis Standards. The incumbent will collaborate with Regional Communicable Disease Coordinators to identify TB related orientation and training needs for new healthcare staff and work to provide appropriate solutions.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Bachelor of Science Nursing or a Bachelor of Science Arctic Nursing along with two (2) years nursing experience with Tuberculosis. Registration with Registered Nurses Association of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut or the ability to obtain registration prior to start date is also required. Experience in public education and skills training would be considered an asset along with experience in TB education and development of training tools.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
Current Indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees that apply and are successful on this term position may be offered an internal transfer assignment for the duration of the term pending Manager approval.
