Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, the Training and Development Specialist contributes to the Department of Community and Government Services (CGS) through the training and development of all CGS employees. The incumbent provides career development and training opportunities, especially focusing on the Inuit Employment Plan (IEP). The Training and Development Specialist will serve as an advisor to the Directors and Managers throughout the region relating to overall staff development and effective training practices.

The incumbent takes the lead in the delivery of current training and development programs and initiatives offered by the Department of CGS. The Training and Development Specialist will provide career development opportunities and key performance management functions. Distributing career, educational and employment information, as well as conducting employee orientation sessions are also responsibilities of the incumbent.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized Diploma in a related field, along with two (2) years of related work experience. Progress toward a professional designation in a related field from a recognized professional accreditation body is an asset. Related course work from a recognized post-secondary institution is considered an asset for this position. Related work experience in the private or public sector is also an asset.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in two or more of Nunavut’s official languages is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Term until April 30, 2021. Current Indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees that apply and are successful on this term position may be offered an internal transfer assignment for the duration of the term, pending managerial approval.
