Reporting to the Manager, Network Operations, the Senior Technical Specialist Lead (Telephony) works within the Government’s main operational support group that is responsible for deployment, operation and maintenance of the Government’s major telecommunications networks and the underlying systems infrastructure on which they reside. This position specifically provides and coordinates Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical support (advanced problem solving) for the entire Government of Nunavut voice communications infrastructure.

As the lead within the Telecommunications – Voice section, this includes tasks such as contract resourcing, scheduling after hours coverage and being the technical go to point. This position will also work closely with the Manager, Network Operations to assist with performance reviews, technical direction and scheduling training, project reviews and other tasks related to the Telecommunications – Voice section and its staff members.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a completion of a College Diploma in Computer Sciences, Information Technology or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience in a similarly large and complex informatics environment including a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience. Certifications from industry such as Network +, Mitel, Cisco is an asset. Experience in project and contract administration within an enterprise level IM/IT environment and exposure to satellite network communications will be considered assets.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. The ability to communicate in two or more of the official languages of Nunavut is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.

Condition of Employment:  ITIL Certification must be obtained within the probationary period.
