Reporting to the Principal of école des Trois-Soleil the School Secretary is responsible for providing a liaison between the public and the school, as well as coordinating appropriate documents to the regional education office, CSFN. This position is expected to maintain all record keeping for the school and staff and over all proficiency of the school. She or he answers the phone and performs general office work, including typing, filing, record keeping and other functions under the authority of the principal.

The incumbent is responsible and accountable for: greeting visitors, maintains student and staff records in the various data systems; prepares and keeps admission records up to date; performs data input, correction and layout of all kinds of documents; monitors budgets and allocates expenses according to established procedures and guidelines; performs purchases and maintains inventory and archives up to date. The incumbent must prepare classrooms’ lists using the File Maker Pro regional database; handle incoming and outgoing mail and merchandise; manage local school programs (breakfast/snacks), monitor and record annual sea lift activities. The incumbent must communicate with substitutes and other substitute attendants to ensure the availability of staff.

The successful candidate should have completed an office procedure course at Nunavut Arctic College or grade 10 equivalency and at least 2 years of experience in a related field. The incumbent must have typing skills in French and English, good knowledge of computerize tools such as Word, Excel, Filemaker Pro, Qaujisaut, FirstClass. The ability to communicate in French and English is required for this position.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
