As a primary role, provides the service of the Radiography program with adherence to the Code of Ethics and the Standards of Practice of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) and the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR). This requires the expertise to fulfill all the important skill sets such as positioning, quality control for film and processing requirements, equipment, and processor maintenance. Works collaboratively with, provides guidance to support staff within the Radiology Services Department. Is available as a resource to the nurses and radiology workers in the Community Health Centers within the Region.

The scope of this position fulfills all general radiology and fluoroscopy requirements, in the absence of an on-site radiologist, by using a variety of equipment. The Medical Radiation Technologist will be required to preform specialized diagnostic radical exams, Holter monitor setup, and electrocardiogram services to patients.

This position impacts on the excellence of patient care, treatment and diagnosis provided by the health care team. Due to the remoteness of the work location from major referral centers, the incumbent must have a thorough and comprehensive understanding of Radiology (including Fluoroscopy), ECG and Holter monitor equipment plus equipment maintenance and repair.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through Successful completion of a 3-year accredited and recognized college program in the discipline of medical radiological technology OR an undergraduate degree in medical radiation technology; Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Medical Radiation Technologist; Must be a current registered member in good standing with the CAMRT (Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technology)

This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
