Reporting to the Manager, Program Implementation and Training, the Program Implementation and Training Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the effective delivery of Nunavut’s Education Program by ensuring that educators and other school staff are effectively trained on those programs, initiatives, policies, curriculum updates, etc., which impact them, their professional activities, and the services they provide.

Quality educator training programs are likely to contribute to enhanced educator experience with the curriculum and programs within the Nunavut schooling system (contributing to greater retention rates), improved student achievement levels, as well as greater student and parent satisfaction with the education offered and delivered in Nunavut schools. As such, the incumbent(s) play a key role in ensuring that educators are best-equipped to deliver the curriculum established by the Minister of Education. It is through the Coordinator(s) that the Department demonstrates accountability to the Public for quality of education offered to students in Nunavut schools. As such, the Minister of Education relies on the incumbent(s) to: (a) ensure educators continue to develop their teaching skills to meet current education standards and, (b) ensure educators are kept informed of all relevant policy, program, procedural, etc. expectations set out by the Department and Government of Nunavut in their commitment to the provision of quality education.

The Program Implementation and Training Coordinators support the Department in the application of its Project Management Process Administrative Directives and participate in/sit on Committees (as and when required) that pertain to the activities of the Division or the Department as a whole. Additionally, the Program Implementation and Training Coordinators ensure that the services and supports they provide reflect/and are aligned with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) Principles and Inuit Societal Values (ISV).

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree (a Master’s Degree is preferred) in one of Education, Adult Education or a related field; Three (3) years of experience  working as an educator (Nunavut-based experience is preferred); Three (3) years of experience with project work at the regional/territorial level; and experience facilitating/delivering workshops targeted to educators. In addition to this, the ideal candidates should have an in-depth knowledge of current education and educator development theory, adult education/learning theory, and best practices in designing training programs. The incumbents must be a skilled facilitator and trainer; as well as a skilled project manager capable of managing a program or project budget. An understanding of community, culture-based education; Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and Inuit Societal Values; graphic design used in a Northern setting including computers and technology; as well as, familiarity with or capable of becoming familiar with and effectively utilizing the Department’s computerized systems and software are required as part of the job.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French.

Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

Only candidates who pass the screening test will be eligible for an oral interview.

Term until June 2023. Current Indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees that apply and are successful on this term position may be offered an internal transfer assignment for the duration of the term.
