Reporting to the Senior Procurement Officer, the Procurement Officer – Technical is responsible for procurement services for goods and services to Government of Nunavut (GN) departments and agencies. This position will be a commodity specialist for informatics technology (IT) purchases across the GN. This can include but is not limited to research, sourcing and procurement of hardware and software to clients, as well as any goods or services related to the GN informatics network. This position assists senior corporate and departmental managers in defining requirements and providing information and guidance on procurement practices specific to the acquisition of IT goods and services.
The overall function and purpose of this position demands the coordination and liaison with GN employees and with vendors to ethically procure materials, supplies and services to meet corporate needs. The incumbent will be developing and maintaining professional relationships with suppliers, regularly analyzing price trends and vendor performance and coordinating contracts. This position represents the GN to the public and is accountable for following GN procurements policies and procedures.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field with four (4) years of related experience. Excellent writing skills and the ability to write technical documents is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful incumbent must be willing to participate in ongoing course work from industry recognized providers of professional procurement courses.
