Reporting to the Contracts Advisor, the Procurement Officer provides client departments with supplies and services in an expedient and cost effective manner, while considering legal obligations and the Nunavummi Nangminiqaqtunik Ikajuuti (NNI Regulation), to ensure the best value to the Government of Nunavut. The incumbent enters into contracts for goods, services and construction on behalf of the Government of Nunavut. The position therefore impacts the efficiency of the Nunavut Government and in turn the services to employees, managers, other departments and residents. Failure to supply good, services and construction in this manner can seriously affect the operations of the client departments both financially and operationally.
The successful candidate will have a Grade 12 high school diploma plus six (6) years of experience with issuing and evaluation of Construction Tenders and Request for Proposal processes for complex services, also experience in conflict resolution and negotiation and experience in dealing with a cross-cultural environment.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
Condition of Employment: The incumbent will be required to complete coursework with the Purchasing Management Association of Canada during the first year of employment and continue this coursework throughout their employment until a level II designation is obtained.
