Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Officer/Chief Operating Engineer, the Plumber is responsible for providing preventative maintenance, service and repair to the plumbing of the Government of Nunavut’s (GN’s) owned and operated buildings. The department has a mandate to ensure buildings are in working order and the equipment is maintained in an efficient and economical manner in accordance with the Facility Management Program. The incumbent may at times travel into the communities for repairs and maintenance. The positions impacts the efficiency of the GN by ensuring the plumbing services and maintenance directly supports the services provided by other departments. Failure to identify plumbing and/or maintenance issues can result in a safety hazard, reduced occupant comfort, costly repairs and the interruption of service to other government departments and the public.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through Certification as a Journeyman Red Seal Plumber, two (2) years of related work experience operations and maintenance and experience with a variety of building types and sizes or municipal works. You must provide a copy of your Class 5 driver’s license prior to appointment. Experience in cold climate construction and experience working in a cross-cultural environment will be considered an asset.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in Inuktitut/Inuinnaqtun is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
