Reporting to the Nurse Manager, Clinics, the Medical Clerk Interpreter position will provide French translation (read, written and oral) between clients, Nursing and Medical Staff, and all other allied Health Professionals as required. Though the position is based out of the Clinic, the incumbent will be required to float to other departments within Iqaluit Health Services to provide interpreting services.

The incumbent may be required to assist medical and nursing staff in the care of clients directly or indirectly.  In addition, the incumbent will provide administrative and reception duties, and provide general assistance for clinical operations as required.

The ideal incumbent would be hardworking, motivated, and flexible with the ability to adapt easily to changes in environment and work schedule. The incumbent should be able to work independently as well as work effectively as a team member.  Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

The successful candidate should have a High School Diploma along with courses in medical terminology accompanied with experience in medical translation/interpreting.  Experience working in an office environment and current CPR training would be considered assets.

Proficiency in both English and French (read, written and oral) is required. 

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit would also be considered an asset. 

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
